Tokyo: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Abdul Hameed, met Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike to discuss strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and Tokyo in the fields of innovation, startups, urban resilience, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on expanding collaboration in technology, digital connectivity, and innovation-driven industries. The discussions focused on creating opportunities for Pakistani startups and entrepreneurs to engage with Japanese technology platforms, investors, and business networks.
Ambassador Abdul Hameed highlighted Pakistan’s growing startup ecosystem and emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation with Japan in emerging sectors such as digital innovation, smart technologies, and sustainable urban development. He said enhanced collaboration could create new economic opportunities and further strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Japan.

A key area of discussion was possible engagement with the Tokyo Innovation Base, one of Japan’s major innovation platforms supporting entrepreneurs, technology companies, and international partnerships. The two sides explored ways through which Pakistani startups and innovators could benefit from networking, collaboration, and future participation in Tokyo’s innovation ecosystem.
The meeting also included discussions on SusHi Tech Tokyo 2027, an international initiative focused on sustainable cities, advanced technologies, and smart urban solutions. Both sides discussed the importance of sharing experiences and expertise in urban resilience, digital transformation, and innovation-led growth.
Governor Yuriko Koike welcomed stronger engagement with Pakistan and underlined the importance of international cooperation in addressing future technological and urban challenges. She also expressed interest in promoting closer interaction between the people, business communities, and technology sectors of Pakistan and Japan.
The meeting is being viewed as another positive step in expanding Pakistan-Japan relations, particularly in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology cooperation.
