Pakistan concluded its remarkable participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan with a proud moment at the closing ceremony, marking an exceptional chapter in the country’s cultural and trade diplomacy. The event celebrated Pakistan’s impactful presence and its contribution to the six-month-long global exposition.

Representing Pakistan at the closing ceremony were H.E. Abdul Hameed, Section Commissioner General of Pakistan at Expo 2025 and Ambassador-designate to Japan; Mr. Muhammad Naseer, Project Director, Expo 2025 / Senior Director General, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP); and Ms. Madiha Ali, Trade and Investment Counsellor, Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo.

Held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” Expo 2025 brought together 158 countries, showcasing innovations, cultural heritage, and visions for sustainable global progress. Pakistan’s Pavilion — artistically curated by Noor Jehan Bilgrami — stood out as a vibrant cultural symbol, attracting over 1.8 million visitors, the highest ever attendance recorded by a Pakistani Pavilion at any World Expo.

The grand closing ceremony at Expo Hall “Shining Hat” featured addresses from His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Akishino, Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura, and Mr. Ishige Hiroyuki, Secretary-General of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition. Prime Minister Ishiba announced that the Expo drew more than 28 million visitors, underscoring its success as one of Japan’s most visited international events. The ceremony culminated with the symbolic handover of the BIE flag to Riyadh, the host city for World Expo 2030.


At the Pakistan Pavilion, a special appreciation ceremony was held where H.E. Abdul Hameed presented certificates of recognition to pavilion ushers, volunteers, and staff for their dedication and teamwork. Pakistan’s pavilion had earlier won two prestigious international awards, recognizing its creative excellence and outstanding presentation.

Pakistan’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka not only highlighted the nation’s cultural richness, natural resources, and creative industries, but also reinforced its emerging role in shaping global conversations on sustainability, innovation, and cross-cultural harmony. The success at Expo 2025 stands as a testament to Pakistan’s growing international profile and the effective collaboration between TDAP, the Embassy of Pakistan in Japan, and its creative partners.
