Prominent figures from Pakistan’s diplomatic, trade, and business circles paid rich tribute to Mr. Tariq Puri, former Chairman of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), acknowledging his exceptional services in strengthening Pakistan’s trade relations with Japan.

During a reception hosted at Siddiq Palace in Tokyo to honor TDAP Director General Muhammad Naseer, several speakers highlighted Mr. Puri’s longstanding contributions to Pakistan’s export sector and his instrumental role in facilitating smooth trade relations with Japan.

Mr. Muhammad Naseer, while addressing the gathering, expressed deep appreciation for Mr. Puri’s leadership and vision, describing him as a “trailblazer in Pakistan’s trade diplomacy.” He noted that under Mr. Puri’s tenure, TDAP achieved major breakthroughs, including the successful lifting of Japan’s restriction on palm oil imports from Pakistan, which had long constrained bilateral trade. “Mr. Tariq Puri’s persistent engagement with Japanese authorities and his professional understanding of trade mechanisms opened a new chapter in Pakistan–Japan economic cooperation,” Mr. Naseer said.

Mr. Ramzan Siddiq, host of the evening and a leading Pakistani entrepreneur in Japan, also lauded Mr. Puri’s contributions, emphasizing that his proactive approach and commitment had helped enhance Pakistan’s credibility in Japan’s competitive market. “Mr. Puri’s efforts went far beyond policy; they built trust and paved the way for Pakistani exporters to access Japan’s high-value sectors,” he remarked.

Ambassador Abdul Hameed, in his remarks, acknowledged Mr. Puri’s enduring impact on Pakistan’s global trade initiatives. The Ambassador said that Mr. Puri had not only advanced Pakistan’s export portfolio in Japan but also guided many of the current generation of trade officers who continue to build upon his legacy. “His diplomatic tact and professional integrity continue to serve as a model for all those representing Pakistan abroad,” the Ambassador added.

Speakers from the Pakistani community in Japan, including Mr. Malik Noor Awan and Mr. Shahid Majeed, also appreciated Mr. Puri’s lifelong services. They highlighted that his policies strengthened Pakistan’s trade infrastructure and created opportunities for small and medium enterprises to connect with international markets.

The evening concluded with a collective acknowledgment that Tariq Puri’s dedication, professionalism, and strategic foresight have left an indelible mark on Pakistan’s trade relations with Japan — a legacy that continues to inspire confidence and pride within the Pakistani diaspora.
